Bear MoyerMay 23, 1925—July 04, 2017Mary Elizabeth Bear Moyer, 92, of Carlisle, died July 4, 2017. Born May 23,1925 in Dickinson Township, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Helen (Roush) Bear. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Lawrence R. Moyer (LTC-Ret.), who died June 4, 1986, and her brother, Ray A. Bear.Survivors include two brothers, Robert W. Bear and C. Glenn (Susan) Bear of Carlisle; two sons—Ronald L. (Donna) of Carlisle, Donald L. (Kay) of Clearwater, FL, and a daughter, Bonita Westfall (Jess) of West Des Moines, IA; 4 grandchildren—Michele L. Moyer of Williamsburg, VA, LaRae L. Moyer of Lawndale, NC, M. Scott Wamsley of Hawaii, Stephanie M. Middleton (Rusty) of Sammamish, WA; 4 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.Mary graduated from Boiling Springs High School, Class of 1942. As an Army wife, Mary made a home for her family in various places throughout the United States, Europe and Bolivia, before retiring with “Larry” in Tampa, FL, where she worked in the ER at St Joseph’s Hospital, loved by patients and colleagues alike. During her life, she volunteered with the American Red Cross, working with U.S, soldiers and later with senior citizens at Forest Park Nursing Home. She was a member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church.Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, VA, at the convenience of the family. It was her wish that those wanting to remember her do so by helping those in need. She requested no visitation or flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. W. Street, Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements are being handled by Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle.

Nancy Liggett Field - The Sentinel

Born May 9, 1919 to the late realtor Clarence M. Liggett and Annie L. (Robinson) Liggett and was the widow of Emmett W. Field. A native of Carlisle, she attended the local Carlisle schools and was a graduate of Penn Hall Preparatory in Chambersburg and Drexel Institute secretarial school, Philadelphia. She was a life-long member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and member of the Carlisle Y.W.C.A., Carlisle Civic Club, Bosler Library and the Auxiliary’s of the former Carlisle Hospital and the Cumberland County Nursing Home.She is survived by two sons; William A. Field of Jackson, WY and Richard A. Field and his wife Debra (Kelley) of Lititz, four grandchildren; Kelly, Kiersten, Cooper and Connor and one niece. She was predeceased by two sisters; Clare R. Liggett and Oella Liggett Scott and one brother, H. Robertson Liggett.A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., with Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to the Carlisle Salvation Army. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mom will be especially remembered for her life of service to others, her family, her church and her community.
